The Philippine Journal of Gastroenterology: Advancing Publication Through Open Journal Systems
With great pride, we present the Second Issue of the Philippine Journal of Gastroenterology (PJG)—a milestone that reflects both continuity and progress. This issue marks not only the growing body of scholarly work contributed by our gastroenterology society, but also our formal adoption of the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, reinforcing our commitment to accessibility, transparency, and academic excellence.
The transition to OJS represents an important step forward for PJG. As an internationally recognized open-source publishing platform, OJS strengthens the integrity of the editorial and peer-review process while making research more discoverable and accessible. For authors, it offers a streamlined submission and review experience; for reviewers and editors, it ensures accountability and efficiency; and for readers, it provides free and open access to high-quality, peer-reviewed Filipino and regional research in gastroenterology, digestive endoscopy and hepatology.
This second issue continues our mission to showcase clinically relevant, locally grounded, and globally informed research. The articles featured here highlight the diversity of gastrointestinal and hepatology practice in the Philippines—from epidemiologic insights and diagnostic advances to therapeutic innovations and challenging case reports. Together, they underscore the vital role of evidence-based medicine in addressing the unique needs of our patient population
We extend our sincere gratitude to our authors, reviewers, and editorial board members whose dedication made this issue possible. Their collective efforts affirm that PJG is not merely a repository of articles, but a dynamic platform for professional dialogue, mentorship, and scientific growth.
As we move forward, we invite clinicians, researchers, and trainees to actively engage with the journal—by reading, citing, submitting, and reviewing. Through OJS, PJG aspires to broaden its reach, enhance its visibility, and contribute meaningfully to the global gastroenterology literature while remaining firmly rooted in the Philippine experience.
We look ahead with optimism and purpose as the Philippine Journal of Gastroenterology continues its journey as an open, credible, and evolving scientific journal.
